For as far back as I can remember, the characters that first pop up in my mind when someone says the word “superhero” are going to be on par with the vast majority of the population. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Spiderman, Ironman, Captain America, Hulk, etc. Anything Marvel or DC. You clearly get the idea. However, I’m pretty sure I’ve got a new name to add to the list of superheroes when I start recalling some of my favorites. (Captain Underpants?) No. Not Captain Underpants. Why would that… You know what? Let’s not let my inner monologue derail us again. I’m talking about:

I’ve been aware of the show Invincible for a few years now and I was also aware of the overwhelming positive reviews that both critics and fans have heaped upon it since its debut back in 2021. (The actual comic run began back in 2003, but I was too busy reading all the original print Spiderman comics as a youngster to pay attention to anything else) However, if I’m being completely honest with you and myself? I’ve been suffering from superhero burnout pretty much since the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame. (Before you attack me, I have seen Spiderman No Way Home and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 but not much else) While I could sit here for quite a while explaining my burnout and general disinterest in all things MCU these days, I want to join in on the heaping of praise for Invincible. I forced myself to binge watch the entire series over a 3-day period and I couldn’t be more upset that I didn’t jump on board so much earlier than I did!

Right from the get-go, episode 1 lays a phenomenal foundation for the main character Mark Grayson. A high school teenager with a superhero father, normal mother and superpowers waiting to activate when he comes of age. It seems to be a very typically origin story similar to your Peter Parker’s or Bruce Wayne’s but the twist at the end of episode 1 is, frankly, one of the biggest hooks I’ve ever seen in a TV show. (Trust me, if you know, you freaking KNOW) I could not stop watching from that moment on because I just had to know how things turned out for all the characters involved. (Thankfully I had been able to avoid most spoilers going into my initial viewing) I’m extremely happy to report that the show did a wonderful job of keeping my interest all the way from the beginning of season 1 until the conclusion of season 3 and I already cannot wait for future seasons. A big part of me is curious to read the comics to see how they compare overall to the show but another part of me wants to be surprised with the direction of the show when more seasons arrive. All I know is, if you haven’t seen Invincible yet and want a fresh and fun (But extremely violent and gory at times. Seriously, you’ve been warned) superhero show that has a great blend of action, comedy, drama and thought-provoking situations, you need to go watch Invincible now. I promise you won’t regret it.
